One response to “Episode 459: Nicklaus Rupert!”

  1. Nice stuff from Nicklaus Rupert in this episode, and some of the stories in his collection sound interesting in a post-Palahniuk way – meaning I’ll need some convincing to actually buy the book. I think he’ll get a lot of sales out of the multitude of people doing MFA’s out there. It’s getting so we need a broad-based degree above a doctorate to reflect the rarefied air of the highly educated, since there are so many Master’s degrees out there, and PhD’s, and an undergraduate degree might as well be a GED for all that you get out of it for the effort you put in.

The highlight of the episode is how Geoff Benge’s accent has changed in four years or so and how it is continuing to change. I note that the lower vowels have become more American, but the higher ones retain that ‘schwaness’ that distinguishes Kiwis from the rest of us. Worth the listen just for that, folks.
